Scoring Outburst Fuels Mines’ 7-0 Win at Colorado Christian

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team produced its highest-scoring performance of the season so far in a 7-0 win over Colorado Christian on Friday afternoon at Lakewood Memorial Field.

Tristan Semelsberger led the onslaught by scoring two goals on two shots while also notching one assist. Lucas King tied the Orediggers' single-game record with three assists in the victory. Ben Overholt, Jason Zobott, Ford Edwards, Zach Archibald and Jacob Eanes all scored goals for Mines as well. Additionally, Baptiste Debuire and Ian Kugler worked their way onto the box score with one assist apiece. Finally, Edwards and Adam Kindorf served as Mines' shot leaders, racking up three attempts each.

While the offense stole the spotlight, the Orediggers' defense was equally impressive. Drew Johnson earned the win with 45 minutes of action while splitting the shutout with Brian Doherty. Neither goalkeeper was forced to make a save as Mines' back line held the Cougars to no shots on goal. Furthermore, CCU managed just three shots in the entire match – all coming in the first half.

With the victory, Mines (7-2-0, 5-0-0 RMAC) extended its winning streak to five straight matches. The Orediggers also notched their fourth consecutive shutout and sixth clean sheet of the season. The visitors out-shot Colorado Christian (0-8-0, 0-5-0 RMAC) by a margin of 25-3. The Cougar's loan bright spot was arguably six saves by goalkeeper Bret Folks who made his first start and appearance of 2019. However, CCU continues seeking its first win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Clear, sunny skies made the temperature feel warmer than the actual 75 degrees it was on Friday afternoon at Lakewood Memorial Field. With school children yelling and screaming at recess at nearby JeffCo Open School, Mines wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. That first strike came less than two minutes into the match as Semelsberger touched a pass forward to Overholt at the CCU 18-yard line. Overholt took one touch and sent the ball inside the right post for a 1-0, Oredigger lead.

Just four minutes later, Semelsberger kept the momentum rolling hitting a banger from 12 yards out off a pass from King to make it 2-0 in favor of Mines. In the 13th minute it was Zobott's turn as he took the throw-in from King and flicked it with his head to the near post past the frozen CCU goalkeeper, extending the Orediggers' lead to 3-0. Then, King dished out another assist in the 30th minute. This time, it was to Edwards who took a pass near the 18-yard line, touched to the middle of the box and sent the ball to the back of the net for a 4-0 lead. Archibald would cap the first-half scoring off an assist from Kugler. Archibald took the pass and dribbled into the penalty area before sending his shot far post from 10 yards out.

All of the real action in the second half came in the first 15 minutes. One caution to CCU in the 48th minute served as the precursor to Semelsberg's second goal of the match in the 51st minute. The sophomore took the rebound following a flurry of Oredigger shots and found the back of the net from 18 yards out for a 6-0, Mines lead. Another caution to the Cougars came in the 56th minute before Eanes scored on a sliding attempt off the cross from Debuire. While the Orediggers would finish the game with 16 shots in the second period, the 7-0 tally would stand as the final margin.
