GOLDEN, Colo. - #14 Colorado School of Mines bounced back with its first win of the season, running away early from Lubbock Christian in a 75-47 victory.
The Orediggers (1-1) won the rematch of last year's NCAA First Round as the Chaps (0-2) suffered a miserable 28.1 percent shooting night. Mines had four starters ind ouble figures led by 18 points each from
Brendan Sullivan and
Mason Baker as they raced out to a 40-14 halftime lead and never looked back.
Titus Reed and
Ben Boone, both making their first career starts, had 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Michael Glen was limited to four points but did just about everything else as he had seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Mines never trailed after Sullivan's layup three minutes into the game, and blew the game open on a 10-1 stretch mid-half that saw LCU go 6:30 without a field goal. That made it 30-12 after a Sullivan three-pointer, and Mines scored the final 10 points of the first half to lead 40-14.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Mines advantage ballooned to as much as 38 at the 10:31 mark. Eight different Orediggers scored points in the second half led by Baker's seven.
