Betts' Bucket Helps Mines Beat Regis, 70-68

DENVER - Kobi Betts' game-winning jumper with 0.4 seconds remaining capped a career night as he led Colorado School of Mines to a grinding 70-68 win at Regis on Saturday.

The Orediggers (6-3, 4-1 RMAC) won their fourth straight game behind Betts' career-high 20 points off the bench and 16 points by Brendan Sullivan. The Rangers fell to 7-3, 2-2 RMAC.

Mines was held to a season-low 39.3 percent shooting and were out-rebounded 41-31, but made up for it with eight three-pointers led by Sullivan's 4-for-5 night and Betts' 2-for-3 clip.

Toni Rocak's 23 points and 13 rebounds led all players. Brian Dawson had 16 and Christian Little 14 for the Rangers, who shot 50 percent for the game but were just 1-of-6 for three.

The Orediggers led 40-34 after an all-around solid first half, but Regis clamped down defensively and outscored Mines 15-6 over the first eight minutes of the second half to take a 49-46 lead. It went back and forth from there as part of 24 lead changes in the game, and a Betts jumper with 2:23 left tied it at again 63. A series of free throws by Regis' Toni Rocak made it 65-63 before Betts canned a huge three-pointer with 1:54 left to retake the lead; Reed then made two free throws after a missed Regis three-pointer, but Rocak's quick layup and one of two free throws by Little tied the game at 68 with 45 seconds left.

That apparently gave Mines one look and then Regis the final shot, but a crucial offensive rebound by Baker off Reed's missed three ended up giving the Orediggers a chance to win it before overtime. Betts ended up with the ball on the perimeter, drove to the lane, and pulled up for a floater that went in with 0.4 seconds to go, and Regis was unable to get a shot off after the timeout as Mines won 70-68.
