Box Score RAPID CITY, S.D. - #11/13 Colorado School of Mines' remarkable 22-game winning streak came to an end as the Orediggers suffered a cold shooting night in a 67-58 loss at South Dakota Mines.
It was an ugly offensive game for the Orediggers (23-4, 20-1 RMAC), hitting a season-low 34.5 percent of their shots as they couldn't dig out of a big second-half deficit despite a late comeback attempt. The Hardrockers used a big first-half run to take control of the game and sank eight three-pointers in the win.
Ben Sonnefeld was the offensive leader for Mines with 19 points, while
Mason Baker scored 12 and
Michael Glen had 11. SDSMT's Logan Elers led all scorers with 20 as the Hardrockers shot .481 against the RMAC's second-best defense.
The Hardrockers ended the first half on a 24-7 run after Mines led by as much as eight in the early going, and that proved key as the Orediggers' poor shooting in the second half dug them into a hole they couldn't get out of. With SDSMT up 35-25 at halftime, the home team continued to stretch their lead early in the second half, and led by as much as 18 at 63-45.
The Orediggers tried to mount a late comeback as Sonnefeld and Glen hit back-to-back threes before
Brendan Sullivan drained a layup to cut the deficit to 63-55 with 1:48 remaining, but the Hardrockers did just enough at the line in the final two minutes to hang on for the win.
