DENVER
- Colorado School of Mines won its second straight team title to open the spring, charging up the leaderboard in the final round to defend their Bob Writz Invitational championship.

Colorado's Victor Bjorlow won his second individual title in three years, shooting a one-under 71 to settle at -1 for the tournament. He was three strokes ahead of teammate John Paterson (+2) while Mines' Alan Berry was the low D-II competitor at +3, marking his third consecutive top-three finish at the tournament.

After morning groups enjoyed terrific playing conditions for much of the day, afternoon groups had to contend with a vicious squall that came off the foothills and pounded Bear Creek with strong winds and rain. That sent scores higher as Mines shot a team 305 (compared to 300 on Saturday) and overnight leader CSU-Pueblo dropped back to third with a 313. The Orediggers ended +29 as Colorado Mesa charged up the leaderboard to finish second at +34, a stroke ahead of CSU-Pueblo. Mines' "B" team, although technically playing as individuals, would have finished second if their team score counted, one stroke behind the "A" team.

The team win was Mines' second in a row after they captured the Coyote Classic in late February.

Mines' scoring group was led by Tim Amundson, who shot a 77 to settle at +4 and a tie for fourth. The 2018 champion suffered the worst of the storm on his back nine but still ended as the second D-II finisher behind Berry. George Markham went low with a 73 to end at +6 (T11), while Preston Smith was a shot back at +7 with a 76 to tie for 14th. Carson Horak (79, T-28, +12) and Colin Dubnik (80, T36, +14) rounded out the Mines "A" squad.

Among the Oredigger individuals, Berry led the charge with a 75 to settle at +3 and third place. The senior has had some terrific performances at Bear Creek in his career, finishing T3 in 2017 and T2 last year. Nic Beno scored a top-10 with a 76 to wind up +5 and in a tie for eighth, while Eric Marshall shot his lowest round since 2016 with a 73 to snag T11 at +6. Ryan Hunter carded a 76 to finish T52 (+20) and Max Engel an 83 for T59 (+23).

Mines will continue its spring at the Mustang Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz. on April 8-9.
