GAME 1 - MINES 6, REGIS 2
Clara Larson was a triple short of the cycle as she drove in four RBI, leading Colorado School of Mines to a 6-2 win in Sunday's opener.
The Orediggers had four extra-base hits to support a gem by
Sydney Marchando, who took a no-hitter into the fifth and ultimately scattered three hits in the win to improve to 11-3.
Larson got things going in the third with a double to score
Kelsey Buechler, and
Kara Jones singled to plate Larson for the 2-0 lead. Larson added three runs to that total in the fifth, smashing her fifth home run of the year following
Kendall Murphy's double and
Katie Leiker's hit by a pitch.
Regis got two runs back in the fifth as Carly Beard broke up Marchando's no-hit bid and Michelle Larose tripled in two runs to make it 5-2 Mines. Murphy added an insurance run on a base hit in the sixth to bring
Stefanie Brunello across, however, and Marchando faced one over the minimum in her final two innings, ending the game on a strikeout.
Larson ended up 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, a home run, and a double; Murphy had two hits in the game as she and
Megan Dickson also had doubles.
Taylor Armitage (8-11) took the loss allowing four runs (two earned) in four innings; Rachel Jones and Cortney Sexton combined in relief.
GAME 2 - REGIS 4, MINES 2
A comeback was not in the cards for Mines in the series finale as they spotted Regis a four-run lead on the way to a 4-2 loss.
The Rangers' Taylor Armitage one-hit the Orediggers while her offense produced two runs in the first and third innings. Mines took advantage of Regis errors in the fifth to cut into the deficit, but ultimately couldn't repeat their rallies from Saturday.
Kendall Murphy had the game's only hit for the Orediggers, a leadoff single to left in the first inning, to extend her reached-base streak to 32 games.
Regis got on the board with Analece Apodaca's two-run double in the first, and Tori Brown's two-run homer to left center made it a 4-0 game after three innings. Ranger miscues cost them in the fifth as
Kara Jones reached on an error and then scored as
Boston Ludlow reached on another error; Ludlow would later come across on
Hana Mawlawi's fielder's choice.
Armitage shut Mines down after that, however, retiring eight of her last nine batters faced with just a walk to
Katie Leiker surrendered.
Claire Stringfellow (9-6) took the loss allowing all four runs, while
Kylie Redding was effective in four innings of relief as she entered in the third and did not allow a run, striking out three.
