GOLDEN, Colo. - For the first time in nearly 90 years, Colorado School of Mines football will play a game in Texas, signing a home-and-home football series with Angelo State for 2020 and 2021.

The two teams - who have never met - will play in San Angelo in 2020 and Golden in 2021, both as the season openers but with specific dates and times to be determined. Angelo State fills one of two open slots on Mines' schedule starting in 2020 due to the departure of Dixie State from the RMAC; the Orediggers' other non-conference opponent for those two seasons will be announced at a later date. The four-year non-conference series with Azusa Pacific will conclude in 2019.

Despite having numerous standout players from the state over the years, Mines has not played in Texas since 1931 when it traveled toTexas Tech. Mines has not played a member of the Lone Star Conference since 2004, when it beat Midwestern State in the NCAA First Round, and have not met a LSC member in the regular season since playing Eastern New Mexico in 1993.

Mines went 10-2 in 2018 as co-champions of the RMAC, earning a berth to the NCAA Tournament. Angelo State was 6-6 in 2018 which included an appearance in the Heart of Texas Bowl.
