HOME FOR THE WEEKEND
#10 Colorado School of Mines begins a five-match homestand and RMAC play this weekend, hosting Western Colorado on Friday and Colorado Mesa on Sunday. Both matches will be the front end of a women's/men's doubleheader.
GAME DAY INFO
New in 2019, fans can purchase digital tickets online in advance
via Mines' new ticketing portal, or buy them at the gate on game day. Ticket pricing remains the same as 2018 at $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, military, and children. Mines students, faculty, and staff are free with their Blaster Card. No dogs (except service animals) are permitted at Stermole Stadium. For Friday's game, fans are reminded to pay the parking lot meter if arriving before 5 p.m.
LAST WEEKEND
Mines had mixed results in Texas, coming back with a 1-0 overtime win at St. Edward's before losing a tough game to Angelo State by the same score. At SEU,
Karolina Sidebaeck headed home
Emma Peterson's free kick in overtime to provide Mines with a key regional win. At ASU, Mines was frustrated outshooting the Rams 14-6, but an early second-half goal won it for Angelo State.
IN THE POLLS
Mines' loss on Sunday only bumped them down three spots in the national top-25 to #10 in this week's United Soccer Coaches' poll. The Orediggers have been nationally ranked in 66 of a possible 74 polls, and they earn their 50th top-10 ranking all-time.
HOME, SWEET HOME
Mines has not lost at Stermole Stadium since mid-October 2017, a span of 19 games unbeaten. The Orediggers are 18-0-1 since then, including 11-0-1 last year. The program record for consecutive home games without a loss is 20, set during the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
So far this season, four of Mines' five goals have been scored by freshmen, with two coming from
Emi Higgins and one each by
Jordan Barnhart and
Karolina Sidebaeck.
Nicole LaTourette is the only upperclassmen to score a goal through four games.
SET PIECE SUCCESS
Three of Mines' five goals this year have come off set pieces, continuing a long run of strong play from the Orediggers in that phase of the game. Two goals (LaTourette vs. Chico State, Sidebaeck at St. Edward's) have come off free kicks while another (Barnhart vs. San Francisco State) was off a corner. Mines has yet to take a penalty kick in 2019.
SCOUTING WESTERN COLORADO [SERIES: Mines, 7-1-0]
The Mountaineers had a tough time through non-conference play with an 0-4-0 record, which included a 2-1 non-RMAC loss to Colorado Mesa. WCU has struggled to create offense with only one goal – from Missa Webb – coming in those four losses. The Mountaineers have evenly split time between their goalkeepers with Kaeyla Noble owning a 1.50 GAA and 16 saves while Grace Walker has 4.50 GAA and 11 saves. Last year, Mines won 1-0 in Gunnison on a
Nicole LaTourette goal just before halftime;
Shannon Mooney made four saves in the shutout. There's something about playing against Western Colorado for LaTourette: she's score four career goals against them including at least one in each of their last three matches.
SCOUTING COLORADO MESA [SERIES: Mines, 15-3-1]
The Mavericks have had a strong 3-1-0 start to the season with wins over UTPB, Western Colorado, and Nebraska-Kearney to start before falling 1-0 in overtime to Newman on Sunday. CMU visits Colorado Christian on Friday before heading to Golden. Six different Mavericks have a goal this year led by Taylor Jones' pair. Kamrie Gunderson has played every minute in goal and sports a solid 0.75 GAA. The Orediggers own a 10-match win streak over CMU and have not conceded a goal to the Mavericks at home since 2011. Last year,
Jennifer Kendall's 77th-minute goal was the winner as
Shannon Mooney had four saves to win 1-0.
Nicole LaTourette is the only active Oredigger to score against CMU with a marker in Mines' 3-1 win in 2017.
JACOBSEN GETS HALL CALL
Last week, Kayla (Mitchell) Jacobsen was announced as part of the 2019 Mines Athletic Hall of Fame class, making her the first player from the women's soccer program to be inducted. Mines' all-time leading scorer with 76 career goals, Jacobsen was the program's first all-American and RMAC Player of the Year after her 30-goal senior season in 2009. She still ranks second in RMAC history in scoring and holds the conference record for career game-winning goals (30).
