Mines Scores Shutout Victory Over Adams State

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team notched a 2-0 victory over Adams State Friday evening at a chilly, rainy Stermole Stadium.

Adam Kindorf and Greyson Adams both scored off of Oredigger corner-kick opportunities. Ryan Wilson and Ford Edwards teamed up to assist the first goal, and Lucas King worked with Jason Zobott for the double assist on the second goal. The trio of Wilson, Edwards and Ben Overholt combined for 15 shots with five attempts each. That mark led all players in the game. Talon Stanley and Adams both put two shots on frame. In goal, Drew Johnson was called upon for just one save on his way to victory and the shutout.

The Orediggers (5-2-0, 3-0-0) extended their winning streak to three games behind a season-high 31 shots. Defensively, Mines limited Adams State (0-5-0, 0-3-0 RMAC) to just nine shots over 90 minutes and only one of those attempts went on goal. The Orediggers separated themselves as just one of two teams with a 3-0-0 mark in conference play. Westminster is the only other team with an unblemished record in RMAC action. Both Fort Lewis and Colorado Mesa are also unbeaten at 2-0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Fans at Stermole Stadium were greeted with a chilly breeze and dropping temperatures on Friday night, but the Orediggers made attendance well worth it. There were 12 total shots between both teams in the first 33 minutes of action. It was the 13th shot that struck gold for the home team. A corner kick in the 34th minute was taken by Edwards whose service landed on the near side of the six-yard box. Wilson got enough of his body on it to direct the ball to a waiting Kindorf who fired off a bouncing shot to the right side of the goal for a 1-0, Oredigger lead.

The second goal of the game came in the second 45 minutes of action which featured 22 combined shots and nine total corner-kick opportunities. In the 79th minute, Mines was able to knock one of those shots home. The corner-kick opportunity was created by Stanley who fired off a rocket that was just saved by the Adams State goalkeeper. King stepped to the flag and played an arching ball that found the head of Zobott. His header fell in front of the goalmouth where Adams connected with a back heel to the right side of the net passed a diving Grizzlies' keeper. Mines defense locked down for the final 11 minutes of action and limited the visitors to absolutely no shot attempts.
