Orediggers Handle UCCS To Clinch #3 Seed

COLORADO SPRINGS - Colorado School of Mines ended the regular season with a key road win as it pulled away to beat UCCS 74-57.

The Orediggers (20-9, 16-6 RMAC) head into the RMAC Tournament as the #3 seed after Dixie State and Black Hills State both won to share the regular-season championship. Dixie State's 82-60 win at Westminster earned them the RMAC regular-season title and #1 seed for the tournament; Black Hills State stunned South Dakota Mines at the buzzer 59-58 to earn the #2 seed.

Mines will host sixth-seeded New Mexico Highlands Tuesday in the RMAC Tournament quarterfinals with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. The Oredigger women will take on Black Hills State prior to that game at 5:30 p.m.

Kobi Betts led all scorers with 20 points, while Brendan Sullivan turned in an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double to guide Mines in the win. Michael Glen pitched in 11 points points, seven rebounds, and two blocks, while Titus Reed scored eight with two swats.

The first half stayed relatively close until Mines hit a 7-2 run at the tail end to lead by double digits, 37-25, at the break. UCCS opened the second half on a 10-4 run, however, to pull within six, but Mines slammed the door with a Glen three-pointer play and Betts' outside shot to re-establish a 12-point lead at 47-35.

The Orediggers would not lead by less than 10 after that as a subsequent 11-2 run capped by back-to-back Mason Baker and Reed three-pointers blew the game open at 58-40 with 11:36 left; a 14-4 span later in the half all but ended it as the visitors increased their lead to as much as 22.
