Day One Results
COLORADO SPRINGS – Redshirt junior
Jake Pinkston grabbed gold to lead the Colorado School of Mines Track & Field teams on day one of the 2020 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by UCCS inside Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.
Pinkston ran away with the top spot by clearing 5.05 meters (16-6.75) which was 20 centimeters higher than the silver medalist. Pinkston's 10 points were the first of the day for the Orediggers as
Ben Twombly,
Zach Clark and
Ben Twombly scored teams points in the event as well. Additionally, Pinkston's height was a NCAA Provisional mark, just one centimeter shy of his season best. The Texan currently ranks #9 in all of NCAA Division II.
Four other Orediggers added to the medal count as well. All four podium appearances featured silver for
Dylan Ko,
Morgan Molesworth,
Arvid Veidmark IV and
Hannah Miller. Ko's second-place finish came in the 5,000-meter run thanks to a provisional time of 14:46.37. Molesworth matched Ko in the women's 5K by taking second place with her time of 18:18.08. Veidmark IV provided precious metal in the weight throw after a heave of 17.45 meters (57-3.0) to clinch silver. It marked a personal record nearly one meter better than his previous career high. Miller rounded out the podium appearances thanks to her clearance of 3.95 meters (12-11.5) in the women's pole vault.
Mines also thrived in the preliminary races.
Randi Higashi,
Layla Moriarty and
Allee Beach all advanced to the finals in the 400 meters.
Kennede Brown raced into the 60-meter hurdle finals as well. Her time of 8.94 seconds came .01 shy of matching the program record. Rounding it all out was
Connor McLean,
Hayden Sather and
Chase McLean in the heptathlon. After four events,
Connor McLean slotted #2, Sather checked in at #5 and
Chase McLean sits #7.
In the team standings, Mines' men and women both finished the day in second place. The Oredigger men collected 46 points through five events while the women put up 35 points after six events. UCCS tops both charts thanks to 51 points for the men and 53.5 for the women. Adams State rounds out the top three on the women's side with 28 points while Western Colorado sits third on the men's side behind 31 points.
