CHADRON, Neb. - Colorado School of Mines cruised to an 81-47 road win at Chadron State Friday night in a defensive showcase by the Orediggers.
Mines (15-8, 11-5 RMAC) held the Eagles (3-19, 2-13 RMAC) to just 18 points in the second half and 34 percent shooting overall as they ran away with the game.
Michael Glen turned in a big night with 19 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks to lead the way.
Glen was one of four scorers in double figures for Mines along with
Kobi Betts (13),
Titus Reed (12), and
Joe Miks (11) as the Orediggers shot .483 overall and drained 11 three-pointers. CSC leading scorer Brian Rodriguez-Flores had a team-high 12 points in 18 foul-limited minutes.
The first half was controlled by Mines but relatively close until the final two minutes as the Orediggers ended on a 13-4 run to blow the game open at 44-29. Glen's three-point play sparked the run, and after
Luke Golter was fouled by Rodriguez-Flores with 22 seconds to go, the CSC player picked up a technical to give him four fouls and send Mines to the line for four shots, all of which were good.
The momentum was firmly on Mines' side as they began the second half on a roll with Reed scoring the first six points, but a later 14-2 run shut the door as Miks scored eight of his 11 points in the same to make it 71-43 and end any CSC hopes. In the meantime, Mines held Chadron to just 6-of-29 (.207) shooting after halftime as they ran away at the offensive end.
