Orediggers Drop Two In Oklahoma

2/7/2020 11:52:00 AM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EDMOND, Okla. - Colorado School of Mines fell to East Central, 9-6, and the hosts Oklahoma Christian, 8-0, to start the Edmond Regional Festival on Friday.

EAST CENTRAL 9, MINES 6
East Central's six-run fourth inning propelled them to a 9-6 win as the Orediggers scored six runs off nine hits, but ultimately couldn't catch up to the Tigers. Stefanie Brunello led Mines at the plate with her first career home run, a triple, three RBI, and three runs scored. Clara Larson and Kylie Redding also had two hits apiece.

It was a back-and-forth game over the first four innings as both teams held leads. ECU got on the board first when Emma Barr scored on an error in the second, but Brunello's lead-off triple in the third led to a 1-1 game after Larson doubled her in.

Kaleigh Ham homered in the bottom of the third to make it a 3-1 Tiger lead, but Mines matched that and then some in the top of the fourth when Brunello launched her home run - a three-run shot to left - to lead 4-3.

Things unraveled for Mines in the bottom of the fourth, however, as ECU loaded the bases with no outs and ended up scoring six runs keyed by a pair of two-run doubles from Ham and Kerry Murphy. Kylie Redding came in to pitch and settled things down, however, giving Mines a chance to chip away in the later innings. Redding helped herself with an RBI single to plate Megan Dickson in the fifth, and Brunello walked and later scored on a wild pitch and error in the sixth to make it 9-6.

Paige Leschber (1-0) earned the win allowing five runs with five strikeouts in five innings. Carla Torres threw two innings of one-run relief. Claire Stringfellow (0-1) took the loss, exiting in the fourth allowing six earned; Sadriena Rodriguez made her first career appearance in that inning and allowed two runs, while Redding was not charged with a run in three innings of hitless relief.

OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN 8, MINES 0
The host Oklahoma Christian put together two big innings to run-rule Mines in the second game of the day.

The Eagles (5-1) did all of their damage in the third and fourth innings to break up what had been a hitless first two innings thrown by Sydney Marchando. Six hits and a Mines error in the third put five runs on the board, keyed by Jaiden Johnson's two-run triple, while in the fourth it was a Lindsey Stoeckel sacrifice fly and Brianna Robinson's two-run double off the wall that added on three more.

Clara Larson led Mines at the plate going 2-for-2 while Kelsey Buechler, Megan Dickson, and Stefanie Brunello also picked up hits;  Larson's game took her to 198 career hits. Mines left seven on base.

Marchando left with two outs in the fourth and was charged with eight earned runs on nine hits. Stringfellow struck out the only batter she faced. Stoeckel scattered five hits in the shutout.
