Box Score 2 GAME 1 - COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES 10, SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE 7
Mines began Saturday by prevailing in an offensive showcase as they outlasted Southwestern Oklahoma State 10-7 at Oklahoma Christian University.
Kylie Redding drove in four and
Clara Larson's go-ahead two-run double in the fifth keyed the victory for the Orediggers, who had nine hits overall. Redding (1-0) was the winning pitcher in four innings of relief of
Lauren Decker; Redding allowed two runs but helped herself at the plate with her 2-for-4, four-RBI game.
Two Bulldog runs in the first put Mines behind to start, but they quickly chipped away on Redding's RBI single to plate
Hana Mawlawi in the first and Mawlawi's single to score
Kelsey Buechler in the second. Redding put Mines ahead 5-2 later in that inning thanks to a bases-clearing three-run double, but the Bulldogs roared back in the third with three runs to tie it 5-5.
Larson doubled in
Kailey Robb and
Renata Boyd in the fifth, and that would prove to be the edge as Mines stayed ahead the rest of the game. SWOSU scored on a run on Keanni Barron's single in the sixth, but Robb hit a two-run double and later scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth to set the lead at 10-6, with a SWOSU run in the seventh not enough to catch Mines.
Alisa Friesen started and took no decision for SWOSU; Brianna Cryer (0-2) threw the final four innings and was hooked for the loss allowing five runs.
GAME 2 - MINES 6, SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE 5
A sixth-inning comeback helped Mines win its second game of the day as they rallied to beat Southeastern Oklahoma State 6-5 at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Clara Larson collected her 200th career hit as part of a 3-for-4 game, and
Megan Dickson drove in three runs as Mines came back from 5-2 down in the third.
Sydney Marchando (2-1) went the distance and battled with six strikeouts, including two in the seventh. SEOSU combined three pitchers with Kamarie Wallace (0-1) taking the loss.
The Savage Storm put two runs across in the top of the first, but Mines quickly answered as Dickson smacked a bases-loaded double to tie it at 2-2. Larson led the inning off with a single to become the seventh player in program history to reach 200 hits.
SEOSU extended their lead on an RBI groundout in the second, and Ivy Amador's two-run home run in the third made it 5-2. Mines chipped away on
Kylie Redding's bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the fourth, but it was a sixth-inning rally that won it for the Orediggers.
Stefanie Brunello, Larson, and Mawlawi led off with singles; Dickson drove in Larson on a hit later in the inning, but
Renata Boyd reached on a two-out error by the second baseman to bring two runs across and give Mines a 6-5 lead.
Mawlawi, Dickson, and Brunello each had two hits in the game; Larson and Mawlawi scored two reach apiece.
