EDMOND, Okla. - #7 Central Oklahoma proved to be too strong as they defeated Colorado School of Mines 9-1 in six innings to wrap up the Edmond Regional Festival.
The Orediggers (3-4) had four hits in the game with
Clara Larson driving in their run.
Stefanie Brunello had a double while
Renata Boyd and
Sydney Marchando also reached base safely.
Starter Corrina Rivas (4-3) went five innings and struck out seven to earn the win; Bailey McKittrick threw a perfect sixth.
Claire Stringfellow (0-2) departed in the fourth allowing five earned;
Lauren Decker pitched 2.1 innings of relief allowing two runs with a strikeout.
After quick starts by both pitchers in the first, UCO got on the board with two runs in the second on Haley Pomplun's RBI fielder's choice and a wild pitch to plate Allie Eicher. Mines cut the deficit in half in the third when Brunello smacked a two-out double, then scored on Larson's single to the gap.
UCO responded with seven unanswered runs to end the game, however. Halley Randolph's squeeze play scored a run in the third, but it was a four-run fourth inning that broke the game open as Audrie Morrison and Lexy Dobson drove in runs before a two-out error let two more across to make it 7-1. The Bronchos ended the game with Amelya Huggins' two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.
Mines is scheduled to return home to host defending national champion and #1 Augustana on Saturday.
