Day One Results
GOLDEN, Colo. – Freshmen stole the show for the Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Track & Field teams as the Orediggers opened their season hosting meet one of the Front Range series.

True freshman
Hunter Potrykus led the way for Mines' youth as he cleared 4.94 meters (16-2.50) in the pole vault in the very first collegiate meet of his career. Not only did Potrykus provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships, he put up the nation's seventh-highest vault this season and entered the Oredigger indoor record book at fourth all-time. Avery Herbold matched Potrykus on the women's side as she also produced a NCAA Provisional mark. Herbold cleared 3.67 meters (12-0.50) in her collegiate debut, putting herself 16th in the nation and second in Mines' record book.

Fischer Argosino capped the breakout performances by freshman with his leap of 14.25 meters (46-9.0) in the triple jump. Argosino's collegiate debut puts him fourth in the program record book and 16th in NCAA Division II this season.
Garrett Halbrooks (long jump),
Abbi Gillespie (high jump) and
Ava Kowalski (pole vault) also made their Oredigger debuts. Gillespie's high jump mark of 1.53 meters (5-0.25) tied her for 10th all-time at Mines.

Returning standouts for the Orediggers included
Grant Redmond,
Jake Pinkston,
Lexye Wood and
Krista Carlo. Defending RMAC Freshman Field Athlete of the Year Redmond cleared 2.05 meters (6-8.75) in the high jump to punch his provisional ticket to the NCAA Championships. The sophomore's clearance ties him for seventh in the nation.
Jake Pinkston also hit a NCAA Provisional mark in the pole vault as he easily cleared 4.79 meters (15-8.50) to rank 16th in NCAA Division II.
Krista Carlo popped off 16.32 meters (53-6.50) in the weight throw and moved up to second place in the program record book.
Lexye Wood capped it off with a long jump of 5.36 meters (17-7.0) to improve her all-time Oredigger ranking to seventh.

Mines was joined by MSU Denver in the Front Range #1 event. Capacity was limited, competitors were required to turn in a negative COVID-19 test, and anyone not actively competing was required to wear a mask. No spectators were allowed, but the event was streamed live on the RMAC Network. A full listing of the day-one results are linked above and at www.minesathletics.com.

The Orediggers continue their Front Range #1 meet on Saturday with the running events starting at 1:30 p.m. Again, no spectators are allowed, but live results and video are available for free at www.minesathletics.com.
