GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Track & Field teams closed out the first meet of the Front Range series in record-setting fashion as five individuals automatically qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Â
Dylan Ko,
Loic Scomparin,
Kyle Moran,
Luke Julian and
Dillon Powell teamed up in the 3,000-meter run to topple the Steinhauer Fieldhouse track record and put up five different NCAA Automatic qualifying times. While all five Orediggers were faster than the previous record of 3:23.98, Ko became the official record holder with his blistering pace of 8:20.18. Scomparin was right behind at 3:20.62 which puts him ninth in the program record book in the first race of his collegiate career. Moran finished third in 3:21.06 while Julian and Powell raced 8:22.17 and 8:23.42. After conversion for altitude and track size, those times are the fastest 3K times in all of NCAA Division II this season. Additionally, the previous top 3K mark in Steinhauer Fieldhouse was set by Celedonio Rodriguez of Adams State in 2005.
