Second-Half Explosion Gives #22 Mines 5-2 Win at UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS – Five second-half goals on Sunday afternoon spurred the #22 Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team to a come-from-behind, 5-2 victory over UCCS at Mountain Lion Stadium

Chris Seery spearheaded the charge for Mines with five points on two goals and one assist. His seven total shots tied for the game high with Tristan Semelsberger who also scored a goal for the Orediggers. Quin Collins and Garrett Miyaoka found the back of the net as well. Lucas King, Grant Bell, Eric Boone and Baptiste Debuire joined Seery in the assist column. All five goals came off the bench for Mines. Goalkeeper Kenneth Symmes (5-2-0) allowed two goals but made one save to earn the victory after playing all 90 minutes.

Mines (12-3-1, 7-0-1 RMAC) scored four of its five goals in a span of 10 minutes and 44 seconds while outshooting UCCS (8-6-1, 4-4-0 RMAC) in the game by a 31-10 margin. The Orediggers also held an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal, and touted a 7-2 margin on corner-kick opportunities. Mines did get whistled for 11 fouls compared to six for the Mountain Lions. However, no yellow cards were issued in the match. With the victory, Mines extends its unbeaten streak to nine straight matches. UCCS had won four its last five contests prior to Sunday's shootout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After salvaging a draw with CSU Pueblo on Thursday night, Mines arrived in Colorado Springs seeking more than one point in the conference standings. In the first 14 minutes, UCCS showed they had no desire to give away those coveted points as the Mountain Lions scored two goals for a 2-0 advantage after 13:53 of action. After the early onslaught Orediggers appeared to settle in and allowed no more shots on goal for the rest of the period, but could not score themselves as the halftime horn sounded on an unchanged score.

Coming out of the break, the match was all Orediggers. Semelsberger started the rally in the 60th minute by gathering his own rebound off a blocked shot and sending a laser just inside the bottom left corner of the goal thanks to a deflection off a UCCS defender. Less than three minutes later, Seery tied the game at 2-2 on a cross from King which Seery put just inside the bottom right corner of the goal. Then, late in the 67th minute, Collins took a rebound off a shot by Seery, used one touch to settle the ball, and then used his second touch to propel a rocket high and right of the Mountain Lions' keeper. That proved to be the game-winning goal, but Mines wasn't quite done. Seery scored his second at the 70:03 mark off a pass from Boone which found the Englishman free behind the UCCS defense and led to a near post finish. That tally capped a 10:44 span of game action which saw the visitors rack up four goals.

Miyaoka rounded out the torrid comeback in the 83rd minute. Bell's defensive clearance skipped off the head of Debuire and sprung Miyaoka for a breakaway score. The only notable piece of the second half for UCCS was a shot on goal in the 72nd minute which Symmes saved. It was their first shot on goal since the opening foray and the Mountain Lions' only other accurate attempt of the match.
