GUNNISON, Colo. - #18 Colorado School of Mines scored twice in each half to cruise in a 4-0 victory at Western Colorado.
The Orediggers (11-2-3, 8-1-1 RMAC) dominated the match, holding 57 percent of the possession and outshooting the Mountaineers (4-9-1, 1-7-1 RMAC) by a lopsided 27-3 margin.
It took only two minutes for Mines to get on the board when
Emi Higgins put home a terrific long cross by
Ava Harman to get the early lead. The advantage doubled in the 15th minute when
Landry Corbett's cross deflected off a defender marking
Laura Butler at the face post and in for an own goal, with a hard-charging
Karolina Sidebaeck crashing in for insurance.
Mines made it 3-0 on the hour with Butler's first collegiate goal as the freshman finished Corbett's cross from the right, and
Emma Peterson added a 20-yard chip shot off a dispossession to make it 4-0 in the 71st minute.
Western was limited to only two shots on goal, both easily handled by
Sierra Roth, who split the shutout with Dani VonLembke.
