OREDIGGERS HEAD WEST FOR RMAC ROAD TRIP
Out to a 4-0 start to RMAC play, Colorado School of Mines heads across the Rockies to visit Colorado Mesa and Westminster this weekend. It will be a challenging trip with the Mavericks entering the weekend 5-2-0 overall and 2-1 in RMAC play, and the Griffins are 4-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the RMAC.
LIVE COVERAGE
This weekend's matches, and every subsequent match this season, will be streamed live and for free on the RMAC Network.
LAST WEEK REWIND
Mines went 2-0 in a split road/home weekend, beating Black Hills State 4-0 away and then topping MSU Denver 1-0 at home. At BHSU,
Reese McDermott's brace and a
Hannah Rowan goal added to an early own goal from
Landry Corbett's throw, and
Sierra Roth and
Dani vonLembke combined for the shutout. Against MSU Denver the Orediggers faced a tough match being outshot 16-5, but an 80th-minute creation by McDermott sprung Corbett on a breakaway for the gamewinner. Roth made eight saves to preserve the shutout and the win.
AROUND THE RMAC
A topsy-turvy weekend in RMAC women's soccer left Mines on top of the table as the only 4-0 team left after previously-unbeaten UCCS lost to Colorado Mesa and CSU Pueblo drew with Westminster. The Orediggers have the full 12 points from four matches with CSUP second on 10 and then UCCS and Regis holding nine points. Colorado Mesa (2-1) has six points and a match in hand.Â
OREDIGGERS SWEEP RMAC AWARDS
Mines players took home all three RMAC Player of the Week honors on Tuesday as
Reese McDermott,
Katie Koehler, and
Sierra Roth were recognized by the league. McDermott was the Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals at BHSU and providing the assist on the gamewinner against MSU Denver; Koehler was the Defensive Player of the Week after guiding a pair of shutouts and making a late defensive save against MSUD; and Roth was the Goalkeeper of the Week after working two clean sheets and making eight saves against the Roadrunners. It was Roth's second career honor, and the first for Koehler and McDermott.Â
ON A ROLL
The Orediggers' wins last weekend extended their home unbeaten streak to 15 matches (12-0-3), and they hold a 13-match unbeaten streak in RMAC play (12-0-1) in any venue. Both streaks date back to a win over MSU Denver on Oct. 20, 2019.Â
LEADING THE WAY
Mines has 10 different goal scorers this season led by a pair of true freshmen,
Reese McDermott and
Lauren Clingman, with three each.
Emma Peterson,
Eliot Edwards, and
Hannah Rowan have scored twice, while Peterson, McDermott, and
Landry Corbett are tied for the team lead with two assists each.
LOCKING IT DOWN
Entering this weekend,
Sierra Roth leads the RMAC and ranks #5 nationally in save percentage (.927) with Mines ranking #4 nationally in team GAA at 0.30. What's more impressive is that of Mines' three goals allowed this season, only one has come from open play; the Orediggers conceded PKs against Florida Tech and New Mexico Highlands, and have not allowed a goal in active play since Sept. 12 at Texas Woman's.Â
SCOUTING COLORADO MESA
The Mavericks are 5-2-0 overall and 2-1 in the RMAC, and are coming off an upset 3-2 win over then-#5 UCCS on Sunday. The Mavs average 2.29 goals per game and allow 1.29. Lila Dere leads the team with five goals while Haley Klasner and Tatum Pfalmer have two each. Chloe Dody is the starter in net and has a 1.16 GAA and .714 save percentage. Mines leads the all-time series 17-3-1, and CMU has not won in the series since 2007 as Mines has 12 straight wins. The two last met in the spring RMAC Tournament quarterfinals on April 20, when
Eliot Edwards' fourth-minute goal lifted Mines to a 1-0 win at Stermole Stadium.
SCOUTING WESTMINSTER
The Griffins are 4-1-2 and 1-1-1 in the RMAC, and spent time in the United Soccer Coaches' Top 25 earlier this season. Westminster is 1-1-2 over their last four matches, however, losing 3-2 to #5 UCCS last Friday and drawing 1-1 with CSU Pueblo on Sunday; they play Regis on Friday before hosting Mines. The Griffins score 1.29 goals and allow 0.71 goals per game, led by Aimee Kurfurst's three goals. Kelsea Cracroft has a 0.68 GAA and .789 save percentage. Mines is 5-0 all-time against Westminster, including a 1-0 win in Salt Lake City the last time they met in 2019 with Chanety Brugman scoring the Orediggers' goal.

Mines returns home to face Colorado Christian on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
