RMAC All-Academic Teams

Led by Academic Players of the Year John Matocha and Nolan Reeve, Colorado School of Mines had a conference-high six First-Team Academic All-RMAC selections announced Monday.

Matocha earned Offensive Academic Player of the Year honors at quarterback, while Reeve took home the Defensive Player of the Year honor at outside linebacker. The Orediggers earned five of the 12 offensive first-team slots as Matocha was joined by running back Michael Zeman, wide receivers Tristan Smith and Mason Karp, and guard Justin Wood; Reeve was Mines' lone first-team selection on the defensive side of the ball.

Matocha is a junior computer science major and one of the nation's top passers, throwing for 1,963 yards and 25 touchdowns this season. He leads the RMAC completing 70.3 percent of his passes, and he has also rushed for 269 yards and two touchdowns in 2021.

Reeve is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering and has had a dominant season at outside linebacker, compiling 52 total tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. He also has a forced fumble and a fumble recovery this season. 

In addition, 24 more Mines student-athletes were named to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll for their classroom performance: Ben Fuchs, Zach Heckman, Zach Hoffman, Sam Zadel, Kenny Wright, Hayden Gregg, Jack Peterson, Kade Johnson, Collin Romero, Joe Golter, Jalen Thomas, Steve Street, Sean Roberts, Evan Alexander, Chris Yoo, Roberto Valenzuela, Josh Pollard, Cole Johnson, Evan Foster, Jacob Lutey, Robert Miller, Levi Johnson, Josh Krause, and Chaffin Ross

All honorees have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.30 or above and at least two consecutive semesters at their institution. First-team recipients are voted on by the league's sports information directors, with all other eligible nominees earning honor roll status.
