Mines Wins Second Straight, 74-42

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines had little trouble picking up its second straight win, dispatching University of the Southwest 74-42 at Lockridge Arena.

Ben Boone had another big scoring night with a game-high 17 points as the Orediggers got back to .500 at 2-2. Brendan Sullivan pitched in 12 points and Mines had 11 different players score in a balanced effort against the Mustangs (3-5).

Mines shot .458 for the game and drained double-digit threes for the second straight night with 10, led by Boone's 3-for-6 outside pace. The Mustangs, led by Jeremiah Toney's 10 points, were held to .321 shooting and just 3-for-13 from range.

Kobi Betts added nine points and a couple of steals, and Justin Engesser had eight points, five rebounds, and four assists as Mines got contributions from all over the lineup.

It was a close game in the early going before Mines hit an 8-0 run to lead 15-7 midway through the first, then banged out 16 in a row after that to blow the game open at 31-9 after consecutive Boone three-pointers capped the larger 24-2 stretch. That sent Mines into the break leading 42-19, and USW never seriously got back into the game after that. The Orediggers never trailed by less than 20 in the second half and went up as much as 35 in the late minutes after Grant Pressly's fastbreak layup as they won going away.
