GOLDEN, Colo. – The #11-ranked Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Westminster on Friday night as the Orediggers celebrated Parents' Night inside Lockridge Arena.
Three different individuals racked up nine kills apiece with
Taylor Hicken hitting .438,
Lindsey Jin converting at .353 on the outside and
Amanda Donais nearly getting the double-double thanks to 12 digs. Hicken also added four blocks.
Julia Eiken was right behind with eight kills and a .438 mark on the attack.
Elle Duis and
Drew Stokes rounded it out with 17 digs and 38 assists respectively.
With the win, Mines (20-3, 13-2 RMAC) move within one victory of a top-four seed in the RMAC Tournament and a home match in the quarterfinals. Despite the loss, Westminster (5-20, 3-12 RMAC) remains mathematically alive for the final spot in the tournament field. The Orediggers' team resume featured a .372 average on the attack with a 7-0 advantage in service aces. The Griffins' bright spot was five blocks as a team, but Mines' defense kept WC hitting at .060 for the match with six blocks of their own. No individual for Westminster had more than five kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Prior to Friday's competition, the Orediggers took time to recognize the parents of the players. After the smiles and hugs, Mines was all business and owned the match from start to finish. Set one ended with a 25-10 score thanks to Hicken's four kills on four attacks with zero errors. Duis also proved big with seven digs in the opening frame. Game two was much of the same as Eiken took the torch from Hicken, knocking down four kills on five attempts with no errors. The result was a 25-13 margin, and Duis racked up seven more digs. Westminster scored first in the final set and tallied its highest total of the night, but Donais' seven five kills on seven attempts with zero errors proved too much. Mines rolled the sweep up in 64 minutes flat.
