Betts Boosts Mines to Victory at UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGSKobi Betts drained back-to-back, step-back jump shots in the final two minutes on Saturday night to push the Colorado School of Mines Men's Basketball team (4-3, 2-1 RMAC) to a 75-70 win at UCCS (7-2, 2-1 RMAC).

Betts accounted for six of Mines' last eight points as he finished the game with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists. His first step-back jumper fell with 1:50 to play in the game and broke a 67-67 tie. His second step-back from the baseline made it 71-67 with 68 seconds remaining. Titus Reed stepped up with a pair of free throws as part of an 11-point effort which pushed Mines ahead 73-67. The Mountain Lions hit a three, but Betts was good for two more free throws with two seconds on the clock to close out the win.

Adam Krasovec provided additional highlights for the Orediggers with a superlative night. He turned 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks, all of which tie or break his career bests. Meanwhile, Brendan Sullivan made it a quartet of double-digit scorers for Mines thanks to 14 points as the Orediggers combined to shoot over 50 percent from the field.

Outside of the final five minutes of action, Mines controlled a majority of the game. The visitors led by as many as 18 points in the first half. UCCS used a dunk on the opening play of the second half to spark a shootout in the early going. Later, suspense truly grew with the Mountain Lions producing a 13-2 run which eventually resulted in the 67-67 tie. However, it wasn't quite enough as UCCS never gained the lead.
