Michael Glen and women's cross country/track & field's
Heather Keniry have been selected as the Fall 2021 President's Senior Scholar-Athletes.
Awarded twice annually prior to the May and December commencement ceremonies, the prestigious accolade is given to one male and one female undergraduate student-athlete who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and the leadership qualities of an exemplary student-athlete. Both Glen and Keniry are receiving degrees in mechanical engineering.
Glen was a pivotal part of Colorado School of Mines' basketball success over the past four years. A starter in the frontcourt from the very first game of his career, he was a four-time all-RMAC recipient during his career, including Second-Team All-RMAC as both a junior and a senior. He was the RMAC Freshman of the Year in 2018 as well. He is the only player in Mines basketball history to compile 1000+ points, 700+ rebounds, and 150+ blocks, ranking third all-time in program history in blocks, and finished his career with 1,294 points and 757 rebounds averaging 11.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game over 114 career starts. Academically, Glen was a two-time RMAC First-Team All-Academic selection and one-time RMAC Academic Honor Roll member. As a team during his career, Mines won the 2019 RMAC regular-season championship, were the 2021 NCAA West regional champions, and appeared in the 2021 NCAA Elite Eight. Mines qualified for the NCAA Tournament in all four of Glen's seasons and went 87-28 during his career.
Keniry has been part of an incredible period of success for Mines distance running over her career. In cross country, she was a two-time First-Team All-RMAC and USTFCCCA All-Region runner as the Orediggers finished runner-up in the RMAC three times and runner-up at the South Central Region Championships twice. In 2021 Keniry finished 47th in the nation at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships where Mines earned its second straight podium appearance as the fourth finisher. Academically, she earned USTFCCCA All-Academic, RMAC Academic Honor Roll and RMAC First-Team All-Academic twice during her cross country career. In track & field, the distance specialist earned USTFCCCA Second-Team All-America status at the 2021 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships as part of the distance medley relay, and was also all-region in the DMR and USTFCCCA All-Academic. Overall, Keniry was named to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll in track & field five different times. She has her name listed four times in the program's indoor record book and twice in the outdoor record book, highlighted by fifth all-time in the indoor 3,000-meter run and the outdoor 5,000-meter run.
Mines' winter commencement ceremonies will be held Friday at Lockridge Arena, with 25 student-athletes earning undergraduate or graduate degrees.
