Second Half Lifts #1 Mines To Win At Western

GUNNISON, Colo. - Another impressive second-half performance helped #1 Colorado School of Mines pull away to beat Western Colorado on the road, 103-82, to remain unbeaten.

The Orediggers improved to 12-0 for the first time since 2014-15 led by Brendan Sullivan's 26 points, shooting .701 in the second half to pull away with the victory. The Mountaineers (4-8, 4-7 RMAC) actually led at halftime after a red-hot first half that included 10 three-pointers, but saw their outside shooting neutralized in the second half.

Sullivan led a bevy of Oredigger scorers including Michael Glen, who had 22 on 7-of-8 shooting, Kobi Betts, who drained five three-pointers on the way to 19 points, and Trent Dykema, who erupted for a career-high 16 points off the bench. Matthew Ragsdale led the Mountaineers with 20 points and Avery Rembao scored 17.

It was a tale of two halves for the Mines defense, as Western shot 10-of-17 for three in the first but only 2-of-9 in the second half. Meanwhile, Mines found its rhythm to shoot 22-of-31 overall and 7-of-11 from beyond the arc after halftime.

Down a point at the break, the Orediggers began the second half on a 16-6 run sparked by Sullivan and Betts three-pointers to blow the game open at 62-53 less than five minutes in. After trading scores over the next two minutes, another Betts three and Kai Barr's layup extended the lead to 15, and the advantage only grew from there with Sullivan's jumper in the key making it an 18-point game, 86-68, at the 6:15 mark. The Orediggers won going away, with their largest lead of 26 coming on Dykema's three-point play off a steal with 1:37 left.
