Day One Results
GOLDEN, Colo. – Oredigger sophomore
Hannah Miller grabbed the spotlight on Friday night as she automatically qualified for the national meet by breaking her own pole vault record at the Colorado School of Mines Track & Field Front Range #4 event at Steinhauer Fieldhouse.
Â
Miller cleared 4.06 meters (13-2.75) on her first attempt at the height. That performance broke her own program record in the event by 0.05 meters and put her in a tie for #5 in the nation. Teammate
Avery Herbold also had a big vault as the true freshman soared over 3.91 meters (12-10.0) for another NCAA provisional standard. Herbold upped her national ranking to #15 and also improved her #2 all-time mark in Mines history. Pole vault success continued with
Hunter Potrykus on the men's side as he hit 5.03 meters (16-6.0). He's just the third Oredigger to break the 5.0-meter threshold and now ranks #8 in the country. The true freshman also improved his mark as the #3 pole vaulter in Mines history.
Â
Three other performances hit NCAA qualifying thresholds as well.
Krista Carlo produced a weight throw mark of 17.32 meters (56-10.0) as a provisional standard which ranks #25 in the nation and improves her standing as the #2-ranked weight thrower in Mines' history. The other two NCAA qualifiers came on the track as the Oredigger women posted a distance medley relay time of 12:01.68, while the men ran 10:13.38. Both times are NCAA provisional times. The women's raw time alone currently sits #16 in the nation and with conversions for altitude and track size could soar inside the top-five. Mines' men could slip inside the top-10 depending on action around the nation.
Â
Day one of the Front Range #4 event also featured competitors from CSU Pueblo and MSU Denver. Capacity was limited, competitors were required to turn in a negative COVID-19 test the week of the event, and anyone not actively competing was required to wear a mask. No spectators were allowed, but the event was streamed live on the RMAC Network. A full listing of the day-one results are linked above and at www.minesathletics.com.
Â
The Orediggers continue their Front Range #4 meet on Saturday with running events opening up at 12:30 p.m. Like Friday, no spectators are allowed, but live results and video are available for free at www.minesathletics.com.
