GOLDEN, Colo. –
The Colorado School of Mines Track & Field teams had another record-setting day on Saturday as the Orediggers closed out Front Range #2.

Amid numerous stellar performances, Zoe Baker arguably won the day by toppling a 22-year-old record, posting this season's #1 time in NCAA Division II in the 5,000-meter run, and provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Baker finished the race in 17:16.41, and broke the Steinhauer Fieldhouse track record by more than 13 seconds. Her time also ranked #1 in the nation this season by more than 10 seconds after conversions for track size and altitude. The previous 5K record in Steinhauer Fieldhouse was 17:30.20 set in 1999 by Kim Bosen of Adams State. In the same race, Molly Maksin hit a NCAA provisional standard by running 17:55.02. Maksin now ranks #4 in all of NCAA Division II this season.

The next historic performance came in the men's 5,000-meter run. Kyle Moran, Dylan Ko and Dillon Powell all automatically qualified for the national meet by running 14:27.16, 14:34.69 and 14:42.98, respectively. Nationally, Moran ranks #2, Ko ranks #3 and Powell ranks #6. Moran would have had the Steinhauer Fieldhouse record in the men's 5K if not for Eric Hamer of NCAA Division I Colorado State who ran 14:16.29. Hamer's time broke the previous fieldhouse mark by nearly 20 seconds and ranks #1 in DI this season by more than 35 seconds. Additionally, Max Sevcik, John O'Malley and Duncan Fuehne hit NCAA provisional times in the second section of the 5K. Mines now owns six of the top-18 5K times in DII this season.

Luke Julian provided the final historic performance of the day in the last race of the day. Julian ran the mile in 4:10.12 to break the Steinahauer Fieldhouse record by more than two seconds and automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. His time also converted to the #1 mile mark in all of NCAA Division II this season. The previous mile record in Steinhauer was 4:12.27 set in 2018 by George Kelly of Adams State. In the same race, Vincent Workman ran 4:15.63 to provisionally qualify for the national meet and put himself seventh in DII so far this season.

Aryelle Wright and Heather Keniry also hit NCAA provisional standards for the Orediggers on Saturday. Wright ran the 800 meters in 2:16.91. Not only was it a personal best, but it ranked her sixth all-time at Mines and ninth in the nation this season. Keniry raced the mile for a second straight week and posted a NCAA time for a second straight week. Keniry's 5:07.93 was good enough for 18th in DII and improved her personal best which ranks 10th in Oredigger history. Rounding out the stellar performances were Ben Abueg, Maddie Geesen and Loic Scomparin who all posted times that rank in DII's top-25 for the year in the 800 meters, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively. In total, Mines' men and women boast a combined nine automatic qualifiers for the 2021 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. The next closest program is Grand Valley State with seven.

The final day of the Front Range #2 event also featured competitors from MSU Denver, Colorado Christian and NCAA Division I programs in Colorado and Colorado State. Capacity was limited, competitors were required to turn in a negative COVID-19 test the week of the event, and anyone not actively competing was required to wear a mask. No spectators were allowed, but the event was streamed live on the RMAC Network. A full listing of the day-one results are linked above and at www.minesathletics.com.
