PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Track & Field teams opened the 2021 outdoor season on Friday and Saturday with multiple record-setting performances at the CSU Pueblo Early Bird Invite inside the Netta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl.
Â
In total, Mines' men and women took down four different program records and had four individuals put their names on the NCAA Division II 2021 Outdoor Qualifying list with provisional performances. Furthermore, the Orediggers rewrote the program record book with 20 new entries including the four records. The record-breaking individuals were
Arvid Veidmark IV,
Aryelle Wright,
Hannah Miller and the quartet of
Allee Beach,
Amena Nelson, Wright and
Randi Higashi. Putting their names on the NCAA qualifying list were Veidmark IV, Wright, Miller and
Sophia Collins. Capping it all off were numerous Orediggers making their outdoor collegiate debut after 665 days since the last competition.
Â
Veidmark IV's record setting performance came in the shot put. He heaved it 16.60 meters (54-5.5) to shatter his own program record of 16.41 meters (53-10.25) and rank seventh in the nation so far this season. Wright's big day came in two different events. Just one week after breaking the Orediggers' indoor record in the 800-meter run, she did the same outdoors with a time of 2:11.72. Wright also became the first person in DII to post a provisional time in the 800m and now ranks first in the nation. She also helped the 4x400-meter relay team including Beach, Nelson and Higashi break the program record by running 3:56.25. Miller broke Mines' outdoor pole vault record by 25 centimeters with a top bar of 3.90m eters (12-9.5). She now owns the indoor and outdoor records in that event and ranks third in the nation this season. Capping off the top performances was
Sophia Collins in the long jump. She reached 5.84 meters (19-2.0) to rank third all-time at Mines and put herself #2 in the nation.
Â
Other Orediggers writing their name in the program record book included
John Sass,
Everett Delate,
Joe Whitney,
Hunter Potrykus,
Fischer Argosino,
Lexye Wood,
Avery Herbold,
Gabbi Varela,
Kathleen Tomon and
Krista Carlo. Higashi and Nelson both added their names a total of six times, and Wood wrote her name in two different events. At least three other Orediggers would have had all-time, top-10 marks if not for their teammates raising the bar.

Mines returns to Pueblo next weekend for the Spank Blasing Invite. Limited spectators will be allowed and live coverage information will be linked at
