Krueger's Walkoff Leads Mines To CCU Split

GOLDEN, Colo. - Kayleigh Krueger's walk-off double in game one helped Colorado School of Mines split their doubleheader with Colorado Christian.

The Orediggers (18-12, 17-9 RMAC) snapped a 14-game win streak by the Cougars (16-5, 15-2 RMAC) as two of the league's hottest teams began their series. Mines won the opener 7-6 with CCU taking the second game 9-0.

Clara Larson tied the Mines career doubles record in game one, notching her name in the record book once again with the 64th of her career.

GAME 1 - MINES 7, COLORADO CHRISTIAN 6
Kayleigh Krueger's walk-off double helped Mines win an enthralling back-and-forth battle to start the series.

Krueger also homered in the first as part of a four-RBI game as Mines raced out to a 5-0 lead before CCU chipped away to tie it and eventually take the lead in the top of the seventh.

Mines got off to a dream start as Kylie Redding singled in Stefanie Brunello before Krueger tucked a three-run homer inside the leftfield foul pole to lead 4-0. Redding's high pop fly in the second fell between two fielders to allow Lauren Decker to score, but CCU began to claw back with Sydney Reamer's RBI double - their first hit of the game - in the third. A big fourth inning cut it to 5-4 with three runs, and Reamer led off the fifth with a home run to tie it 5-5.

The tie lasted in the seventh, when an error by Mines allowed the go-ahead run to come across for a 6-5 lead. That left the Orediggers down to their final at-bat; with two-outs Larson doubled in center and then scored on an error by the shortstop to tie the game, but that set up Krueger, who blooped a double inside the leftfield line to score Redding for the win.

Sydney Marchando was sparkling over the first two innings before CCU adjusted on the second time through the order; she departed in the fifth and Sadriena Rodriguez (3-0) tossed three innings of three-hit relief with only the single unearned run on her record. CCU starter Jennifer Romero also left in the fifth with a 5-5 tie, with Samaria Roope (3-1) allowing two runs - both unearned - in the seventh to take the loss.

GAME 2 - COLORADO CHRISTIAN 9, MINES 0 (5 inn.)
Colorado Christian made the adjustments it needed to for the afternoon's game, racing out to a big early lead in a 9-0 run-rule victory.

The Cougars produced nine hits led by Sydney Reamer's grand slam. Stephanie Day got CCU on the board with a one-run double in the first before Samaria Roope singled in another and Kenzie Middle's triple made it 4-0 in the second. Sami Edwards' sac fly in the third made it 5-0 before Reamer's big fly in the third pushed the lead to 9-0.

Julie Katz (7-0) earned the win in four innings scattering four hits; Sydney Rawlings threw a scoreless fifth. Kylie Redding (4-4) left in the third allowing four earned, with Kayleigh Krueger pitching three innings of relief and allowing three.
