RESULTS: CU Invite | Maverick Multi & Open
GOLDEN, Colo. – Connor McLean and
Arvid Veidmark IV stole the show for the Colorado School of Mines Track & Field teams on Saturday as both shattered program records with NCAA qualifying performances.

Both McLean and Veidmark IV competed at the Maverick Multi & Open hosted by Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction, Colo., while the Oredigger runners competed at the CU Invite in Boulder, Colo. McLean shattered the program record in the decathlon with a score of 7,299 points. It marked McLean's first-ever collegiate decathlon as the graduate student automatically qualified for the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. His score toppled
Austin Smith's previous top mark by over 300 points and now ranks second in NCAA Division II this season and top-10 in all of the United States of America across all levels.
Hayden Sather joined McLean in the decathlon with a provisional score of 6,853 which ranks eighth in the NCAA this season.

Veidmark IV destroyed his own program record in the shot put for a fourth consecutive weak thanks to a heave of 17.37 meters (57-0.0). The mark toppled his previous record by 18 centimeters and moved the junior up to 12th in the nation this season. Veidmark IV also threw the hammer 53.39 (175-2.0) meters on Saturday and improved his own all-time standing at eighth in Mines' history.

Ten other Orediggers improved their all-time marks in the program record book on Saturday afternoon as well. At the CU Invitational in Boulder, Colo.,
Randi Higashi ran the 200-meter dash in 25.93 seconds which ranks fourth in program history.
Layla Moriarty ran the 400-meter dash in 57.46 second and moved up to fourth all-time in the Oredigger record book.
Amena Nelson joined Moriarty in the 400 meters and posted a time of 58.09 which ranks seventh in Mines' history.
Zoe Baker continued the running success in her outdoor track & field debut by running 4:39.45 which ranks eighth all-time for the Orediggers. Teammate
Maddie Geesen ran the same race in 4:40.97 to put her name at ninth in the record book.
Allee Beach rounded out the performances in Boulder with a 400-meter hurdle performance if 1:03.98 which moved her up to third in the record book.

Back in Grand Junction, Colo.,
Lauren Kelly ran the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.71, moving up to sixth in program history after competing in the pole vault on Friday.
Kathleen Tomon flipped the shot put 13.82 meters (45-4.25) and improved her third-place mark in program history.
Lexye Wood and
Abbi Gillespie completed Mines' revision of its outdoor record book in the high jump. Wood cleared 1.60 meters (5-3.0) which ties her for third in program history. Gillespie leapt over 1.50 meters (4-11.0) to take over 10th place for the Orediggers.

Next weekend, Mines is slated to host the Kit Mayer Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Stermole Track & Field and Crouch Field Events complex. No spectators will be allowed to attend. Live coverage will be determined and announced leading up to the event.
