Orediggers Rally for 3-3 Draw at CSU Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. – The #14-ranked Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team rallied from a 3-0 deficit on Saturday afternoon to save one point in a 3-3 draw against CSU Pueblo at Gonzales Field.

Tristan Semelsberger, Azad Iliozer and Michael Sprauer all scored goals for Mines. Iliozer also added an assist and three shots on goal. Semelsberger took three shots as well and put two of those on frame. Vaughn Simpson added three shots to the effort as well with one going on goal. Greyson Adams, Chris Seery and Sprauer combined for a total of six attempts as well. Goalkeeper Brian Doherty made one save in the first half while Kenneth Symmes came off the bench for one save in the second half.

With the win, the Orediggers (4-0-1, 4-0-1 RMAC) remain unbeaten in 2021 and stay at first place in the RMAC standings. Mines earned the single standings point by outshooting CSU Pueblo (4-0-2, 2-0-2 RMAC) 21-11 while putting 10 shots on goal compared to five shots on target from the ThunderWolves. CSU Pueblo goalkeeper Garret Wild did make seven saves in the double overtime thriller.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a thrilling overtime victory at Fort Lewis on Thursday afternoon, Mines found itself in an early deficit on Saturday in sunny Pueblo, Colo. The host ThunderWolves tallied goals in the 14th minute, 27th minute and 65th minute to take a 3-0 lead on the defending conference champions. Two of those goals came from Joe O'Sullivan who also assisted on the third tally.

With 21 minutes remaining in regulation, the Orediggers suddenly grabbed the momentum. Exactly 69 minutes into the match, a foul was whistled inside the box and Semelsberger stepped to the spot and converted the penalty. Less than two minutes later, Iliozer found the back of the net and cut the deficit to 3-2. One minute and four seconds after Iliozer's goal, he took another shot that was saved, but at 72:05, Sprauer finished the job on an assist from Iliozer and tied the game 3-3.

Over the final 17:55 of regulation, Mines outshot the ThunderWolves by a margin of 6-2, but none found the back of the net. The Orediggers carried that barrage into the first overtime period with four more attempts while the defense limited CSU Pueblo to zero. Neither team took a shot in the final 10 minutes, and the final horn sounded with both teams claiming a point in the standings.
