A national champion as a student-athlete and coach, the Mines Athletics Hall of Fame welcomes cross country and track & field star Mark Husted to its Class of 2021.

As a student-athlete at Mines, Husted was a two-time NCAA Division II champion and six-time all-American. He was part of the 2009 NCAA indoor championship distance medley relay, and closed his career with the top podium spot in the 2010 outdoor 800m. He was a four-time indoor all-American - twice each in the DMR and 800m - and finished on the podium twice in the outdoor 800m, including fifth in 2008. Husted was also a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, including that organization's highest honor as the ESPN Academic All-American of the Year in 2010.

As an assistant coach with the cross country program since 2016, Husted helped the Orediggers to the men's NCAA Division II title in 2019 with the women collecting their first podium finish in third that year. He has been part of three RMAC championships (2017, 2019, and 2020), two NCAA regional crowns (2018 and 2019), and has helped develop 18 All-Americans.

Husted appears all over the Mines record books as his indoor and outdoor bests (1:50.56 and 1:48.65, respectively) were school records at the time and still sit second, and he owns the Steinhauer Fieldhouse track records over 600m and 800m.

Husted didn't stop running after Mines as he turned professional with Brooks and went on to compete six times at the USA Track & Field National Championships, finishing fifth twice in the 800m. He also finished third in the New Zealand National Championships. Husted still makes frequent appearances as a pacesetter during home track meets at Mines.

A native of Westminster, Colo., Husted is a triple Oredigger, earning his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering in 2009, a master's in Energy Systems and Power Electronics in 2010, and a doctorate in Operations Research in 2019.
