RJGA South Central Shootout, UNM Championship Course, Albuquerque, N.M. [Live Leaderboard]
Monday and Tuesday - 8 a.m.

THIS WEEK'S OUTING
Coming off a solid season-opening performance, Colorado School of Mines heads south to take part in the competitive RJGA South Central Shootout, hosted by Western New Mexico at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M. The field will give Mines another good look at the competition around the South Central region with 8 a.m. starts on Monday and Tuesday.

LAST WEEK
Mines finished a strong third at the season-opening The Writz at Mile High Monday and Tuesday at the Orediggers' home of Bear Creek. Jake Welch had a breakout performance to finish fourth, and freshman Owen Cornmesser was T5 in his collegiate debut as both held the lead at different points of the tournament. The entire lineup contributed as Jackson Parrish notched a T15 showing in his debut, Ryan Hunter scored twice, and Ethan Adam ended on his career-low round of 73 to be the third round's #2 scorer. The Orediggers finished eight strokes off the leading pace of Colorado Christian, and Welch (-3) was only one stroke back of a three-way tie for individual first.

LAST TIME IN NEW MEXICO
The RJGA South Central Shootout was skipped in 2020-21, but Mines won the event in the fall of 2019 led by medalist Preston Smith. Ryan Hunter is the only current Oredigger who was in that field, carding a best round of 76 on the final day.

ON TOUR
Mines alumnus Jim Knous is starting another PGA Tour season this week at the Fortinet Championship in San Francisco. Knous was -2 in Thursday's first round. He's returning to the Tour after competing in three top-level events plus a Korn Ferry Tour schedule in an injury-limited 2021 season.

LOOKING AHEAD
Mines will play in the Farmers Insurance Sam Proal Regional Preview in Pueblo on Oct. 4-5 and the Otter Invitational in California on Oct. 18-19.
