ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Colorado School of Mines needed a positive to end the first day of the RJGA South Central Shootout, and got it in their second round at the UNM Championship Course.
After a morning round to forget at 320, Mines stormed back in the afternoon to card a two-over 290, the fourth-lowest round in the 16-team field, to move up to 13th at +34 for the tournament. The charge was led by
Jake Welch and
Owen Cornmesser, who each shot one-under 71s in the second round.
Cornmesser is the best-situated Oredigger on the leaderboard at +6 (T37), rebounding from a morning 79 to shoot 71 in round two. Three-over through nine, Cornmesser birdied four straight holes to get into the red. It was a similar situation for Welch (+13, T69), who had 86 in round 1 but spread four birdies around his second round to end his day on a high note.
Jackson Parrish (+7, T44) had Mines' best first round at 74, then shot 77 after lunch.
Ethan Adam (+10, T59) matched his career-low round of 73 in the afternoon after carding 81.
