LAST WEEK REWIND
Mines dispatched Adams State, 3-0, last Friday and New Mexico Highlands, 4-1, on Sunday to start RMAC play. Against Adams State, Mines went ahead on an own goal caused by
Landry Corbett's throw-in before
Lauren Clingman scored two quick late strikes as Mines outshot the Grizzlies 20-2. Against NMHU,
Eliot Edwards' early goal set the pace but the Cowgirls drew a first-half penalty to level 1-1; second-half goals by
Emma Peterson,
Katie Koehler, and
Hannah Rowan won it as Mines' aggressive attacking generated 23 shots including 17 in the second half.
BLINK AND YOU MISSED IT
Freshman
Lauren Clingman's two goals against Adams State made her the team's leading scorer this season with three, but she also made some history in the process. Clingman scored her goals exactly 60 seconds apart, snapping Erin Onat's program record for the fastest consecutive goals by the same player; Onat scored 1:07 apart against UCCS in 2011.
ON A ROLL
The Orediggers' wins last weekend extended their home unbeaten streak to 14 matches (11-0-3), and they hold an 11-match unbeaten streak in RMAC play (10-0-1) in any venue. Both streaks date back to a win over MSU Denver on Oct. 20, 2019.
SPREADING IT AROUND
Mines has scored 14 goals this season, with nine different players finding the net. Clingman's three leads the way while
Emma Peterson and
Eliot Edwards have two apiece, and six others have one goal each. Peterson also leads the team with two assists.
LOCKING IT DOWN
Mines has been known for its outstanding defense under head coach
Kevin Fickes, and that's no different this year as the Orediggers have conceded only three goals in eight matches - and only one came from open play.
Sierra Roth and the Mines defense sport an impressive 0.38 GAA, with Roth holding a .903 save percentage.
SCOUTING BLACK HILLS STATE
The Yellow Jackets are 2-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in RMAC play after beating Colorado Christian, 1-0, before losing 2-0 at Colorado Mesa last weekend. BHSU is led by Emma Avery, who has scored four of the team's five goals this season off a team-high 14 shots. They have started three different goalies with Makayla Dannelly (270 minutes) and her 1.00 GAA and .857 save percentage leading the group. Mines is 5-0 all-time against Black Hills State including a 4-0 win back on March 7 in Golden that included goals by
AK Ford,
Cloey Seltzer, and
Michelle Easley.
SCOUTING MSU DENVER
The Roadrunners are off to a great start at 4-1-2 and 1-1-0 in the RMAC as they host Regis on Thursday before coming to Stermole Stadium on Sunday. MSUD lost to Westminster 1-0 and beat CCU 3-0 last weekend. The Roadrunners are conceding only 0.57 goals per game with Kayla Caballero sporting a 0.58 GAA and .800 save percentage. Katy Coats and Elisa Dean lead the team with three goals each and Annie Rolf has three assists. Mines and MSU Denver have a long history with the Orediggers leading the series 15-7-7, including eight straight wins dating back to 2015 and an 11-match overall unbeaten streak. They last met on March 3 when
Emma Peterson,
Chaney Brugman, and
Amena Nelson scored in a 3-0 win at Stermole Stadium.
EVANS GETS HALL CALL
Former Mines star Anna Evans was part of the Mines Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2021 announced earlier in August and will be inducted at the ceremony Saturday night. The three-time all-American and two-time Academic All-American was the 2012 RMAC Player of the Year and 2013 regional player of the year tallying 55 goals and 23 assists in her career, including 19 game-winning goals. Evans led Mines to the program's first-ever RMAC regular-season title in 2013 and won three straight RMAC Tournament crowns starting in 2011.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Orediggers head out on the road to visit Colorado Mesa and Westminster next weekend.
