Rasco's Goal Lifts #10 Mines Over Western

GOLDEN, Colo. - #10 Colorado School of Mines continued its home dominance, dispatching Western Colorado 1-0 at Stermole Stadium behind Afton Rasco's second-half goal.

The Orediggers (11-1-3, 7-0-2 RMAC) remain two points back of first-place Regis in the RMAC standings with two matches left to play; Mines finishes the regular season at CSU Pueblo and then at home against the Rangers. With results this weekend, Mines is assured of a spot in the eight-team RMAC Tournament.

Mines controlled the first half with a 10-1 shots advantage, with their best opportunity coming on Lauren Clingman's dropping long-range effort off the crossbar in the 26th minute. Ava Harman's cross for Cloey Seltzer was well-saved in the 34th minute, but Mines left the opening 45 minutes frustrated at 0-0.

The breakthrough came five minutes into the second half. A possession on the wing was pushed back out to midfield, where Harman threaded a pass back into the box. Ellise Putnam one-touched it back to Rasco, who rifled her finish off a diving Aubree Orosco for the lead.

Harman nearly made it 2-0 in the 64th minute with a point-blank header that went over the bar, and Brooke Pennington had a terrific chance skip inches left of the post in the 84th.

NOTABLES
- Mines extended its program-record home unbeaten streak to 26 matches. The Orediggers are 22-0-4 in that span and now will have gone three full calendar years without a loss at Stermole Stadium with the streak beginning Oct. 20, 2019 in a win over MSU Denver.
- Rasco scored for the fifth time this season, and is now third on the team with 13 points.
- After not recording a point in more than 3,500 career minutes heading into the weekend, Harman has three (a goal and an assist) in her last two matches. Her helper on Rasco's goal was the first of her career.
- Sadie Wolf didn't have to make a save until the final minute of the match to earn the shutout. Orosco made eight saves to keep her side in the match.
- Seltzer led all players with four shots off the bench. Landry Corbett and Amena Nelson had three apiece.
- The Orediggers improved to 11-1 all-time over the Mountaineers with their eighth straight win in the series.
