Another Sweep for #22 Mines at UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS – The #22 Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team extended its win streak to four on Saturday with a sweep at UCCS.
 
Megan Neil tied the match high with nine kills while hitting .444. Emily Knight and Morgan McChesney both notched eight kills apiece and hit .316 and .636, respectively. Drew Stokes finished with 32 assists, four digs, two kills and one block. Shannon Perna, Jada Price, and Audrey Richard all had six digs each. Perna also added four aces and three total blocks. Price and Richard combined for four service aces as well. Also notable was three blocks for McChesney.
 
A team hitting percentage of .403 helped Mines (17-5, 12-2 RMAC) get the win. Meanwhile, UCCS (10-12, 5-9 RMAC) hit just .134 as a team due to 17 attack errors including eight blocks by the visitors. The Orediggers also totaled nine service aces compared to four by the Mountain Lions. Mines is now tied for #2 in the RMAC standings after Regis lost in four sets to MSU Denver.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saturday's match was all Orediggers from start to finish. There was only one tie and one lead change in the opening set as Mines won 25-16 thanks to four kills each from Neil and McChesney. In set two, UCCS posted its closest margin of the day in a 25-19 loss to the Orediggers. Mines hit .458 in the frame and Perna racked up five kills. The visitors polished off the sweep with a team attack percentage of .571 thanks to four kills from Knight and four total blocks. The Mountain Lions were held to .048 hitting in the final set.
 
NOTABLES
- Mines is now 31-24 in the all-time series against UCCS.
- The Orediggers have won 16 straight over the Mountain Lions including five consecutive sweeps.
- McChesney's hitting percentage on Saturday marked a career high for the true freshman.
- Head Coach Magalei now owns a career record of 335-107.
