GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The #21 Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to #19 Colorado Mesa on Saturday evening inside Brownson Arena.
Megan Neil was the Orediggers' top offensive weapon with 10 kills on .500 hitting.
Emily Knight also turned in seven kills and a .385 attack percentage.
Drew Stokes handed out 29 assists.
Elle Duis racked up 14 digs. Despite those top performances, Mines (18-6, 13-3 RMAC) saw its five-match win streak halted. The Orediggers hit .299 as a team, but Colorado Mesa (19-4, 14-2 RMAC) converted at a .455 clip. At the end of the day, Mines will fall to #4 in the RMAC standings while CMU takes over #2 in the conference pending Regis' decision against Adams State in Denver, Colo.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines battled in the first sets, but fell behind on scores of 25-17 and 25-22. The first set featured hitting percentages of .476 and .567 with Colorado Mesa holding the advantage. Stuewe and McChesney combined for a .500 attack average with eight total kills in the second set, but it was not enough. The third set saw the Mavericks leap out to a 9-0 lead, and that proved too much for the Orediggers to overcome. Colorado Mesa completed the sweep and extended its win streak to 11.
