Koehler Tabbed as RMAC Defensive Player of the Week

10/4/2022 4:03:00 PM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for women's soccer Tuesday afternoon, and Colorado School of Mines women's soccer defender Katie Koehler was named Defensive Player of the Week following her efforts as Mines went 2-0-0 last weekend to remain unbeaten in conference play.

It is the second weekly honor for Koehler in her career as she helped guide Mines to a pair of 1-0 wins at Stermole Stadium over the weekend against Colorado Mesa and Westminster. Against the Mavericks, she scored the game-winning goal in the 39th minute from a header by Jordan Barnhart on a ball played into the box on a free kick from Paola Rubi. Playing all 90 minutes, she also helped lead a defensive effort that stymied CMU and held them to just 11 shots, of which only four were on goal. Sunday against Westminster, Koehler was unable to extend her scoring streak to four matches, but again helped lead a stellar defensive effort that held the Griffins to just eight shots, of which just three were on goal. For the weekend, Koehler played all 180 minutes and finished with a goal on one shot and two points.

She is the third Mines player to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors, joining Lauren Clingman (8/30) and Jordan Barnhart (9/20).

The #10 Orediggers continue RMAC play this week, first heading to Colorado Christian Thursday afternoon for a 1 p.m. match before heading to #RV UCCS Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
