COLORADO SPRINGS - While Colorado School of Mines cross country program was still celebrating its historic championship-winning day in Seattle, the calendar turned to indoor track & field season in Colorado Springs as the Orediggers got things started at the Air Force Holiday Open on Friday.
The abbreviated meet saw a full slate of field events plus track distance at a mile and under to begin the new year. It was a chance not to just to get in early-season work, but to do so against a good field filled with Divison I competition at the Academy.Â
For the women,
Avery Herbold won the pole vault with a new PR and Mines all-time #2 mark of 3.95m, clearing the bar on her first attempt; she headed a group that included
Ava Kowalski in fifth at 3.50m and
Gabbi Varela in sixth at the same height.
On the track, the 4x440m relay of
Allison Comer,
Avary Catchings,
Aryelle Wright, and
Grace Galvin won the event by more than seven seconds, in 4:01.22.

In the men's meet, Mines' sprinters got things going as
Andy Gebhardt ran the rarely-seen 600m and finished second in 1:22.90, and
