Mines Rises Again in National Polls

GOLDEN, Colo. –
The Colorado School of Mines Women's Basketball team will head into the holiday break ranked #10 and #12 in the country according to the two DII national polls released Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Orediggers climbed one spot to #10 on the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) list while surging six slots to #12 according to the media poll sponsored by D2SIDA. Both jumps followed a weekend featuring two dominant victories for Mines. Saturday evening saw the Orediggers take a 79-62 victory at the expense of MSU Denver. On Sunday, Mines downed Western Colorado by a score of 80-69.
 
Jessica Rios and Sammy Van Sickle spearheaded the two wins. Rios only missed three shots from field the whole weekend to average over 81 percent overall and 75 percent from three-point range while pouring in 18 points per game. Van Sickle was everywhere on the court, totaling 11 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 points, nine blocks, and five steals.

Mines takes a week off for the holidays, as per NCAA Division II rules, before returning to action on New Year's Eve at Colorado Christian in Lakewood. Free live coverage will be offered at www.minesathletics.com.
