GAME 1 - NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE 9, MINES 2
Two big innings by Northwestern Oklahoma State gave them a 9-2 win over Mines to start the day.
Trystin Oshiro-Sano and
Sara Larson drove in runs for Mines, but the Rangers produced five extra-base hits including four doubles as Hannah Howell produced six RBI and got the win in the circle.
The Orediggers, playing as the home team, scored first when
Renata Boyd converted a lead-off single into a run on
Trystin Oshiro-Sano's RBI in the first. The Rangers responded in a big way with a five-run second as Abby Detar doubled in two runs before Hannah Howell blasted a three-run home run.
Mines got a run back in the bottom of the second as
Sidney Wilson and
Sara Larson led off with back-to-back doubles, but NWOSU responded with another crooked number as doubles by Mackenzie Adams and Howell produced four runs to take a 9-2 lead.
Howell went the distance and struck out five in the win for the Rangers.
Cassidy Chvatal started and went 1.2 innings, allowing five.
Taylor Wayne was charged with the four runs in the third but settled in after that as she threw 5.1 innings of relief.
GAME 2 - #4 WEST TEXAS A&M 9, MINES 1 (5 innings)
The tournament ended with the Orediggers' toughest test yet as #4 West Texas A&M worked a 9-1 victory in the afternoon game.
The defending national champions manufactured nine hits as Megan Guericke drove in three and Ruby Salzman was 3-for-3 with a home run.
Renata Boyd went 2-for-3 leading off for Mines and
Grace Gonzales hit her first career home run to put Mines on the board.
The Buffs went ahead with Salzman's solo home run in the first, but Mines held it to a 1-0 game until a five-run third blew things open for the Buffs. Guericke's two-run double sparked their three-run fourth, and despite Gonzales' homer to lead off the fifth, the Oredigger rally never materialized as Mines left runners on the corners in the inning.
Emilee Wilson went four innings scattering two hits and striking out two in the win; Josey Nichols threw the fifth for WT.
Sadriena Rodriguez went three innings with as many strikeouts allowing six runs, with
Lauren Decker relieving her for the final two innings.
