Sullivan Drops 30 In Setback At CMU

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Big runs by Colorado Mesa before and after halftime erased an early Colorado School of Mines lead as the Mavericks won 72-62.

The Orediggers (13-10, 12-8 RMAC) were led by Brendan Sullivan's 30-point night, but 23 team turnovers helped the Mavericks (21-8, 15-5 RMAC) rally back from 13 points down in the first half.

Sullivan went off for 30 points including six three-pointers, and Adam Krasovec had 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Blaise Threatt led CMU with 27 points off the bench as Jared Small added 17.

Mines had a dream start going as much as 13 midway through the first half after a Kai Barr and-one play, but the Mavericks ended the half on an 18-5 run with nine of the points coming via Threatt to lead 36-24 at halftime.

Sullivan's basket to open the second half tied it at 36, but CMU rattled off the game's next eight points in a 13-3 run to blow open a double-digit lead that Mines would not recover from. The Orediggers got as close as six points after Krasovec went on his own 5-0 run in the middle of the half, but Mesa quickly pushed the lead back to double figures and converted opportunities at the line down the stretch to win.

NOTABLES
- Sullivan was one off his career scoring high as he notched his second career 30+ point game. The senior was 11-of-20 overall and 6-of-10 for three, adding four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block despite playing much of the second half in foul trouble.
- Krasovec led all players with eight rebounds as he added two blocks to his night.
- CMU scored 21 points off 23 Mines turnovers.
- Mines actually shot better than Mesa (.431 vs .400) for the game and made two more three-pointers (9 vs. 7), but the Mavericks went 17-of-20 at the line to Mines' 9-of-14.
- The Orediggers held a 38-30 rebounding lead.
