GUNNISON, Colo. – Oredigger distance star
Zoe Baker won the first postseason award of the 2021-22 season for the Colorado School of Mines Track & Field teams on Friday as she brought home the RMAC Summit Award for indoor track & field.
It marks the first indoor track & field Summit Award of Baker's career and third Summit Award overall after she claimed the same honor at the 2020 RMAC Cross Country Championships and the 2021 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Summit Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA) participating in the RMAC Championships.
Baker claimed the distinction thanks to an unblemished 4.0 GPA with over 150 credit hours completed as a double major in computer science and applied mathematics. During the 2021-22 indoor season, the Longmont, Colo., native has run a trio of races and posted NCAA-qualifying times in all three. She enters the conference indoor championships ranked #2 in the nation in the 5,000-meter run, #11 in the nation in the 3,000-meter run and #38 in the mile. Baker is slated to race for a RMAC title in the 3K on Saturday at 2:55 p.m. in Gunnison, Colo. The last time Baker ran the 3,000 meters at the league championships she brought home gold.
