LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Colorado School of Mines finished off its series sweep at New Mexico Highlands, producing big numbers at the plate in 12-1 and 7-0 wins on Monday.
The Orediggers (5-13, 5-5 RMAC) were led at the plate by freshmen as
Hannah Roberts,
Taylor Wayne, and
Lexie Semeyn all homered to support strong starts by both Wayne and
Sadriena Rodriguez.
Roberts capped off a standout series hitting 9-of-11 (.818) with six runs scored, while
Sidney Wilson drove in five and scored five going 8-of-12 across the four games.
GAME 1 - MINES 12, NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS 1 (5 inn.)
Mines drilled 16 hits, including four doubles and two home runs, to run-rule New Mexico Highlands 12-1 in five innings to start Monday.
Kayleigh Krueger drove in four runs doubling twice and
Taylor Wayne helped herself with three RBI and her first collegiate home run as Mines poured it on in the later innings. Wayne (1-3) earned her first win in the circle with three strikeouts and one run surrendered through five.
Mines went ahead when a dropped fly ball from Wayne with the bases loaded let
Hannah Roberts score in the second, and
Sara Larson's double plated Roberts again in the third to lead 2-0. Highlands got on theboard with McKayla Encinias' sacrifice fly in the third, but Mines would score 10 unanswered after that starting with a three-run fourth as Wilson drove in
Renata Boyd and Krueger sent two runs across on a double to lead 5-1.
The fifth inning broke the game wide open as Wayne homered to right for two runs, Wilson singled in Boyd, Krueger smacked another two-run double, and Roberts capped the rally with her first collegiate homer to make it 12-1.
Nathalie Blattmann (4-4) took the loss through four innings, with Demi Uffelman allowing seven runs in the fifth.
GAME 2 - MINES 7, NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS 0
Sadriena Rodriguez's nine-strikeout shutout paced Mines as they completed the series sweep with a 7-0 win over Highlands in the afternoon.
Hannah Roberts again led Mines at the dish going 3-for-4, and
Sidney Wilson drove in two runs. Mines had seven extra-base hits among 14 in all including
Kayleigh Krueger's second two-double game of the day.
The game was scoreless into the third until Wilson doubled in
Renata Boyd and
Emilee Sloan, and Roberts doubled home Wilson later in the inning to make it 3-0. Boyd and Krueger popped RBI doubles in the fourth to make it 5-0 before
Sara Larson's single plated Krueger, and
Lexie Semeyn capped the win with a pinch-hit home run to lead off the seventh, the first of her career.
Rodriguez (1-2), who had the save in game 1 of the series on Sunday, scattered five hits across 97 pitches as she picked up her first win of the season. Arianna Ramirez (0-7) went the distance for NMHU allowing six earned and whiffing seven.
