Oredigger Trio Highlights Mines’ Outdoor Opener

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Track & Field trio featuring Arvid Veidmark IV, Hannah Miller and Avery Herbold highlighted the Orediggers' 2022 outdoor opener at CSU Pueblo on Saturday with three NCAA-qualifying performances.
 
Miller and Herbold struck first in the women's pole vault. Miller cleared 3.98 meters (13-0.75) and now ranks #4 in the nation this season. Herbold claimed a bar of 3.83 meters (12-6.75) which put her #6 in the nation as of Saturday night. Veidmark IV rounded out the NCAA performances with a record-breaking toss in the discus. His mark of 52.46 meters (172-1.0) toppled the decade-old program record of 50.39 (165-4.0) set by Heath Butler in 2011. Veidmark IV put his name #3 in the nation this season with the throw.
 
Other notable Oredigger performances from the weekend were numerous. The women's list featured Grace Galvin in the 200-meter dash, Amena Nelson and Allison Comer in the 400-meter dash, Mackenzie Duck in the 800-meter run, Claire Kintzley in the high jump and triple jump, Dale Thompson in the pole vault, Kathleen Tomon in the discus and Jennifer Jarnagin in the hammer. Galvin ran the 200 meters in 25.84 seconds and now ranks #4 in program history. Nelson clocked a 56.67 and Comer ran 59.25 to put their names #4 and #10, respectively in the program record book. Duck busted out a 2:13.53 in the 800 meters which ranks #6 in the Orediggers' outdoor record book. Kintzley's high jump of 1.50 meters (4-11.0) tied her for #10 in program history and her triple jump of 11.06 meters (36-3.5) ranks #7 all-time at Mines. Thompson vaulted 3.68 meters (12-0.75) and rose to third in the outdoor record book. Tomon won the discus with a toss of 43.93 meters (144-1.0) and improved her standing at #3 in Mines' history. Jarnagin rounded it out with a hammer of 45.53 meters (149-4.0) to etch her name #9 in the program record book.
 
On the men's side, Nicholas Nijkamp, Wyatt Tyson and Davin Kiesby wrote their names in the program's outdoor record book. Nijkamp's triple jump of 13.58 meters (44-6.75) tied him for #8 all-time. Tyson put up a shot put mark of 13.94 meters (45-9.0) to take over #10 in Oredigger history. Kiesby whipped the hammer 53.07 meters (174-1.0) to finish second and enter the record book at #9. Additionally, Alex Maline, Andy Gebhardt, Coulton Chan, Noah Kelly, Shane Conley, Nijkamp, Tyson, Kiesby made their collegiate outdoor track & field debuts in an Oredigger uniform. Galvin, Comer, Kintzley, Thompson, Kitt Rupar and Jarnagin did the same for the women.
