GAME 1 - COLORADO CHRISTIAN 15, MINES 6 (5 inn.)
Colorado Christian hit eight home runs as they took game three of the series against Colorado School of Mines 15-6 in five innings.
With a strong wind blowing straight out, the two teams combined for 10 big flies in the game. Sami Edwards homered three times for CCU and Kenzie Middleton twice;
Sara Larson and
Ellaena Rodriguez went deep for the Orediggers.
Middleton, Edwards, and Taylor Olsen went yard in the first inning to get CCU off to a 4-0 start, and things went crooked for Mines as the Cougars added a seven-run second inning to make it 11-0. The Orediggers continued to battle at the plate though with
Trystin Oshiro-Sano's bases-loaded single driving in two runs in the third, and Larson and Rodriguez's home runs in the fifth - both two-run blasts - providing Mines' runs.
Alexis Hamilton (15-1) pitched four innings and allowed two runs in the win with Samaria Roope throwing the fifth.
Cassidy Chvatal (4-7) started and threw an inning for Mines with
Taylor Wayne (2.1 IP) and
Lauren Decker (0.2 IP) in relief.
Decker and Larson both had two-hit games at the plate for Mines.
GAME 2 - COLORADO CHRISTIAN 19, MINES 3
The offensive fireworks continued for Colorado Christian as they hit three more home runs and seven extra-base hits in a 19-3 win to cap off the series against Mines.
The Cougars (37-5, 25-1 RMAC) stretched their win streak to 23 games as they generated 17 hits.
Kayleigh Krueger led Mines at the plate going 2-for-3 with a run driven in, and
Sara Larson and
Hannah Roberts also had RBI.
Mines got on the board first when an error on Larson's first at-bat allowed
Lauren Decker to come across, but CCU put five runs up in the bottom of the first keyed by two-run base hits from Piper Lujan and Miki Berg. The Cougars then scored five in the second, four in the third, and five in the fourth, homering in each inning to lead 19-2. Mines scored additional runs on Roberts' RBI double in the fourth and a Kruger double to score
Taylor Wayne in the fifth.
Abrie Castillo (14-2) earned the win with four innings in the start and Julie Katz threw the fifth.
Sadriena Rodriguez (4-6) was charged with the loss as
Cassidy Chvatal and
Lauren Decker appeared in relief.
