Mines Edges Adams State For Two Wins

GAME 1 - MINES 5, ADAMS STATE 4 (8 inn.)
Colorado School of Mines outlasted Adams State in a wild 5-4 extra-innings game to start the series.

Emilee Sloan's squeeze bunt pushed the winning run across in the eighth after the Grizzlies' Belinda Vargas hit a grand slam with two outs in the seventh to force extras. Sidney Wilson went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead Mines at the plate.

The Orediggers took a a 4-0 lead into the seventh with single runs across four different innings. Kayleigh Krueger's single scored Lauren Decker in the first and Wilson brought in Renata Boyd in the third; in the fourth it was Lexie Semeyn singling in Sara Larson before Wilson's base hit to plate Decker in the fifth made it 4-0.

In the Grizzly seventh, ASU had one on with two outs before Sydney Muniz singles and Savannah Hoisington was hit by a pitch to load the bases. That set up Vargas, who smashed an 0-1 pitch to center to tie the game and force extras after Sadriena Rodriguez entered for Cassidy Chvatal and got a strikeout to escape the inning.

Mines quickly went back to work in the eighth as Semeyn doubled, and Rodriguez picked the perfect time for her first career hit with a single to put runners on the corners. That set up the opportunity for Sloan to bunt in Semeyn for the 5-4 lead. Rodriguez then worked a scoreless bottom half, allowing a leadoff single and then getting two pop outs and a strikeout for the win.

Rodriguez improved to 3-4 with two strikeouts. Chvatal whiffed nine in taking no decision. Taylor Duncan pitched five in the start for ASU allowing four runs, with Jasmine Garbiso (3-4) taking the loss in three innings of relief.

GAME 2 - MINES 2, ADAMS STATE 1
Late runs by the Orediggers supported Sadriena Rodriguez's complete-game victory as Mines took a 2-1 decision in Saturday's late game.

Sidney Wilson went 3-for-4 and reached base four times, driving in one run, and Kailey Robb drove in the winning run on a pinch-hit appearance in the sixth. In the circle, Rodriguez (4-4) struck out seven in earning her second victory of the day, scattering four Grizzly hits and issuing no walks.

ASU struck first with Sydney Muniz's RBI double in the third, and it Mines awhile to crack the egg despite stranding five on base through the opening four innings. In the fifth, Renata Boyd's single and steal set up a scoring opportunity for Wilson, who laced a single through the left side to tie the game 1-1. In the sixth, Lexie Semeyn turned a leadoff walk into a run, moving around to third on a sacrifice and an error and then scoring on Robb's fielder's choice.

Rodriguez then worked out of a jam in the sixth, with ASU stranding a runner on second before Rodriguez struck out the side in the seventh.
