GAME 1 - CHADRON STATE 6, COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES 1
Chadron State used timely power hitting to win Monday's first game, 6-1, over Colorado School of Mines.
The Orediggers stranded 10 runners in the game, including the bases loaded in the third and runners in scoring position in five different at-bats, as they couldn't take advantage of scoring opportunities. The bulk of the Eagles' scoring came off a pair of home runs by Mackenzi Kroll in the first and Addison Spears in the fifth.
Kroll's three-run shot put CSC up 3-0 in the bottom of the first but back-to-back doubles by
Sara Larson and
Lexie Semeyn cut the deficit to 3-1 in the second. The Eagles responded with Kroll's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the second, then Spears' two-run blast in the fifth as starting pitcher Tia Kohl (6-14) repeatedly worked out of runners-on situations to preserve the win.
Cassidy Chvatal (4-9) departed in the first and was charged with the loss.
Taylor Wayne threw 4.1 innings of relief allowing three runs, with
Sadriena Rodriguez pitching a scoreless sixth. Kohl struck out two allowing one run for CSC.
GAME 2 - COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES 8, CHADRON STATE 0 (5 inn.)
Mines' bats supported a one-hit shutout by
Sadriena Rodriguez as Mines bounced back for an 8-0 run-rule victory in Monday's second game.
The Orediggers pounded 10 hits in five innings, including multi-hit games by
Renata Boyd,
Trystin Oshiro-Sano,
Kayleigh Krueger, and
Grace Gonzales. Gonzales drove in three runs with Larson and Boyd two apiece as Mines manufactured all of its runs on singles in the first and second innings.
Rodriguez (5-6) struck out five and faced three over the minimum as allowed a bunt single on her first batter faced and then no more over the next five innings. Gabby Russell (2-7) took the loss in 1.2 innings for Chadron State, allowing all eight runs; Tia Kohl was effective with five strikeouts in 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Sara Larson extended her hitting streak to eight games and
Sidney Wilson to seven in the game.
The Orediggers batted around in the first as Larson, Gonzales, and Boyd each cracked two-run singles to blow it open at 6-0. The offense continued into the second when
Kayleigh Krueger plated a run on a single before scoring on Gonzales' base hit. Chadron State, meanwhile, put only one runner in scoring position all game as Rodriguez quieted their bats.
